Although he has no reason to trust the goddess Catairanach or her messenger Deyandara, fugitive heir to a murdered tribal queen, desperation leads him to accept her bargain: if he kills the mad prophet known as the Voice of Marakand, Catairanach will free him of his curse.  · The latest he’s offering us is the opening volume in a new series from K.V. Johansen, the Canadian author of Blackdog (). Black Gate’s own James Enge blurbs The Leopard with a stylish tip of the hat to the great Harold Lamb: “I’m hooked. This mix of magic, Tibetan-style religion, and Harold Lamb-style adventure is pretty addicting.”.

K.V. JOHANSEN • Weaver of Worlds • Teller of Tales • Coming soon in audio -- all five novels of Gods of the Caravan Road beginning with Blackdog, October K. V. Johansen’s The Leopard combines familiar fantasy elements in unique fashion to create an involving and deftly written novel of escape and capture, love and loss, and battles both mental and physical. The Leopard consists of two parts. In the first, Ahjvar the assassin accepts a mission from the goddess Catairanach in exchange for freedom from her curse and the violent ghost that rules him. Johansen has crafted a huge world with immense lore and history, and The Leopard himself was shaping up to be a really nice anti-hero – before he disappeared from the story. So if the next book in the Marakand series can get back to those subjects, I believe it will, without a doubt, be a fantasy must read.
